Blue Bear Tavern

Blue Bear Tavern, which for several weeks has looked as if it was out of commission, is now officially closed. Philly Chit Chat’s HughE Dillon reports that the WashWest watering hole, which housed Doc Watson’s as far back as the Nixon administration, closed with about as much fanfare as its opening. You’ll recall that when first announced, the bar was going to be another concept from the now dissolved partnership between the group of restaurant vets who created Zavino, and at one time counted the still as-yet-opened Jose Garces beer-and-brats joint Frohmans Wursthuas as one of its entities. Last we heard, Frohmans was still a go, but it looks now like Blue Bear is done for the count. Eater Philly’s reporting that Farmers’ Cabinet’s owners are scoping out the space for a possible project. [Philly Chit Chat; Eater Philly]
