The 2012 James Beard Award nominees are in, and it’s looking a lot like for the Foundation is taking a pass on the majority of Philly’s semifinalists. Hometown heavy-hitters from Stephen Starr and Marcy Turney to Pierre Calmels and Chip Roman didn’t make today’s cut for nominations. Those named today are all in as contenders for the big prize in May. Not everyone was shut out though. Big ups are in order for Marc Vetri, whose eponymous Spruce Street flagship made it in for the “Outstanding Restaurant” award. Delaware neighbor and Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione snagged a nod for “Outstanding Wine & Spirits.” And City Tavern chef Walter Staib’s A Taste of History is in the running for “Television Program, On Location,” while Phillymag/Foobooz editor Jason Sheehan received a nom in the journalism category “Food, Culture, and Travel.” [JBF]
