Falcon Cafe, Eiselen’s Pastry Shoppe and More Call it Quits

It’s looking like East Passyunk Ave.’s Falcon Cafe is giving up the ghost after just a little more than six months in operation. A tipster told Grub this morning that the place “looks dark, closed up and maybe even like someone painted over the sign on the wall outside.” We tried to calling to confirm only to find out that the place never had a phone. Calls to a number listed on its Facebook page goes directly to a full voice mailbox. A thread on the PhiladelphiaSpeaks message board suggests its been closed since at least late March.

• Sadly, Eiselen’s Pastry Shoppe in Roxborough has called it quits after a 50 year run. Seems the bakery, which dates back to 1889 (it moved to Ridge Ave. in 1939) couldn’t get its lease renewed. Though closed now, there’s some evidence to suggest it may reopen elsewhere in the near future. [NBC Philadelphia]

• Somewhat related, longtime Society Hill fixture Zeke’s Deli is also closed. The Insider reports that Downtown Club chef Felix Maietta and manager Theresa Fera who briefly ran Union Gourmet in the space that’s now Garces Trading Company, have plans to revive their deli-fast-casual concept there. An opening is slated for tomorrow. [Insider]

• Out in University City, Au Bon Pain at Huntsman Hall is on the chopping block. Daily Pennsylvanian reports that the Wharton School, which manages the facilities there, has opted out of renewing the ABP contract. It’s going with Heathland Hospitality Group, which is expected to run a more fresh and local routine. The new spot should open before classes start in the fall. [The DP]
