The State Departments of Agriculture and Health have put a temporary halt on the production of raw milk and raw milk cheese at Norman Z. and Edith B. Sauder Farms in Kutztown following a round of regular screenings that tested positive for Salmonella. Though no one’s been sickened this time around, NBC Philly reports that state health officials are advising consumers to discard any raw milk products purchased from the farm after March 25.

No doubt the subject of raw milk and the growing numbers of folks sickened from consuming it has been raising some eyebrows throughout the region over the course of the past year. Back in February, raw milk from one Central Pennsylvania dairy farm was blamed for sickening as many as 80 people.

Undaunted by the growing numbers of outbreaks tied to unpasteurized dairy products, raw milk advocates in New Jersey are still pushing for new measures that would make it legal for sale in the Garden State. Newsworks reports today that New Jersey Assemblyman Gilbert “Whip” Wilson from Camden wants the Garden State’s consumers to have the option of purchasing raw milk legally.
