South Bay Teen Tries to Make Better Use of Restaurant Waste

Seeing the waste produced by restaurants and grocery stores every day, twelve-year-old Kiran Sridhar started a program called Waste No Food, connecting those businesses in the South Bay with organizations that distribute food to the hungry and homeless. Neither Kiran nor CBS appear to realize that San Francisco already has such an organization: Food Runners, founded by Tante Marie Cooking School owner Mary Risley (pictured). They report that Kiran is already signing up restaurants in S.F. to participate in his program, and that he’s now enrolled in high school up here. We’re sure Risley would be glad to help young Kiran, and there’s always room for more good work like this, but we’re also sure she might be a little annoyed if he got all the publicity for something she’s been doing for years.
