St. Vincent, in the former Heart space.

Here it is, kids, the first of several big Mission openings to brighten up your spring. St. Vincent, the much anticipated wine tavern from former Quince wine director David Lynch, opens tonight with a food menu by former Bar Tartine guy Bill Niles. As Lynch told Grub Street the other week, he wants people to find a bevy of special wines to explore, and for the concept to be like “the poor man’s RN74,” with a deep and interesting list that doesn’t venture into insane price points.

The primary list features 100 wines for under $100 (many well below that), which can be ordered by the bottle, half-bottle, or glass — even if they only come as whole bottles, you can pay for and drink just half, if you like. The Scoop has the whole opening wine list here.

As you can see from our slideshow, the reclaimed wood ceiling has been preserved from the former Heart space, and some of Heart’s wine racks have been reused as well for a temperature-controlled wine case. The remainder of the wood from the racks — you may recall that the whole front part of the place was lined with under-counter and wall racks — has been repurposed as tabletops, benches, and stool-tops (so sustainable!).

St. Vincent - 1270 Valencia Street at 24th - 415-285-1200 - Open for dinner, Monday through Saturday.
