State Bird Provisions to Expand Two Doors Down With The Progress

Barely five months after opening, the couple behind State Bird Provisions (1529 Fillmore) are eyeing an expansion two doors down at 1525 Fillmore. As the Scoop reports, the concept is still under wraps, and the opening is about a year away, but the name is settled: The Progress. The name comes from the original tenant in the building, The Progress Theater, which opened in 1911 and closed about fifteen years later.

We’re guessing that after doing the more casual, lively, dim-sum-style concept at State Bird, Brioza may be looking to return a bit closer to his fine-dining roots with a somewhat more upscale concept, but it’s too soon to tell.

In between State Bird Provisions and The Progress will be the upcoming brick-and-mortar location for Hapa Ramen, called simply Hapa, which is due this summer at 1527 Fillmore.
