Aimee Olexy Shares Her Hostessing Secrets at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
Anyone who’s ever enjoyed dinner at Talula’s Table or the Philly-based offshoot Talula’s Garden knows that a big part of both restaurants’ formula for success rests with owner Aimee Olexy’s razor-sharp, and laser-focused hostessing skills. On Saturday she will share some of her secrets on entertaining in a special onetime program Hostess Crafting, which will take place at the Gallery Cafe at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Perelman Building from 3 to 5 p.m. It coincides with the exhibit Craft Spoken Here, and it costs $40 per person. “I love to party, I love to have people over, but I like to be able to enjoy myself too,” Olexy told Grub Street. "So, you might say that I’m leading by example.”
Like dinner at her renowned Kennett Square shop’s farm table, which to date still requires a reservation one year in advance, Saturday’s program begins with a tasting of local cheeses. Olexy will talk about the cheeses, how to pair them with wine and seasonal produce, and how hosts and hostesses can leverge them to illicit conversation at gatherings. She will also demonstrate how to prepare fresh ricotta. From there assorted tea sandwiches and seasonal offerings will be served, and Olexy will show participants how to craft tablescapes from farm-fresh goods and how ordinary and inexpensive items can be repurposed and transformed into stylish hostess gifts.
