Byko on Outdoor Dining: Get Off My Lawn Sidewalk!

Not content with giving everyone and everything associated with bicyclists, bicycles and bike lanes a hail of old-guy hell, today perpetually crotchety Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky takes aim at restaurants around town that set up seasonal outdoor seating. His hackles are up, because the scourge of dining al fresco interferes with his ability to freely stroll the city’s sidewalks. He’s further infuriated by what he asserts is the Street’s Department’s refusal to stem curbside cafes, and enforce the laws that regulate them. What’s interesting though, like sharing the road with bicycles, Byko’s beef with tables and chairs set up on sidewalks is that he can’t seem to squeeze by them. But since no one else seems to be complaining, perhaps the problem isn’t so much a matter of crowded streets and sidewalks, as much as it is a need for an eye exam. [Daily News]
