A couple weeks ago we mentioned that Brendan Hartranft and Leigh Maida, owners of Memphis Taproom, Resurrection Ale House, and Local 44, had lined up their first executive chef for four-year-old Local 44. Now comes word that long time chef at Resurrection Ale House, Joe Chmiko is on the move. Foobooz reports that the chef is relocating to New York, and that Rhett Vellner, who is already operating in the G-Ho watering hole’s kitchen, is going to replace him. In the short term, not much is expected to change. Further down the road though, a full revamping of the menu is expected. An unveiling of new dishes is being planned for the bar and restaurant’s third anniversary in late September.

Meanwhile out in University City, White Dog Cafe announced this week that it too has a new chef running the kitchen. He’s Eyhab Hatab, and a Le Bec Fin alum who also spent time at Daniel Stern’s Rae, before skipping town for a spell. With his return, and appointment at White Dog, comes new lunch and dinner menus.
