Devil’s Den and Belgian Cafe Debut Ommegang’s Scythe & Sickle; Oyster House Pouring Hill Farmstead Beers
With the autumn drinking season creeping up on us like daylight savings time, you know that its only a matter of minutes until local draft lists become overwhelmed with the obligatory pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers. Should you require a different flavor for fall, you might be interested in Scythe & Sickle Harvest Ale, a new brew from Cooperstown, NY’s Brewery Ommegang. According to the brewery, it’s a malty concoction that’s made with pils malt, rye flakes and oat flakes, and “delicately” hopped to produce a slightly sweet, yet complex amber ale. It’s available now through the end of November, and Devil’s Den and Belgian Cafe are two of the first bars in these parts to put it on tap.
Devil’s Den will have it and several other rare Ommegang beers on draft on Wednesday, September 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. Belgian Cafe will do the same on Wednesday, September 20. After that Scythe & Sickle will be available at craft beer bars and bottle shops all over.
Also of note for the thirsty beer drinkers out there is, Oyster House will be pouring a couple of Hill Farmstead beers on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. One will be the Greensboro, VT brewery’s Edward Pale Ale, and American pale ale that’s named after owner Shaun Hill’s grandfather who lived and raised his five children on the site that now houses the brewery. Also on tap will be Everett Porter, which is a very malty unfiltered and naturally carbonated porter that takes its name from Edward’s brother. Both brews will be on offer for $5 a pour. As an added bonus, Oyster House is offering complimentary Cajun catfish po boy sliders for those ordering the Hill Farmstead beers.
