Earlier today we talked a little bit about how a bunch of Starr vets were bringing a taste of Philly dining to the Jersey burbs. Now it’s looking like old Dirty Jerz is sending one of its own back over the the Delaware. Jersey Mike’s Subs, a sandwich franchise with 600 locations that was founded in Point Pleasant in 1956 just set up shop at 30th Street Station. The franchisee, The Grove Inc., is also behind the new Wendy’s that also just opened in the mini food court on the station’s concourse. The sandwich maker’s commitment to using only house-baked bread, and private label meats (not to mention offering a cheesesteak) deserves some props. It’s the flagrant use of the word “sub” here in the heart of hoagietown that doesn’t sit so well with us. They should be a little more careful when it comes to regional sandwich nomenclature. It didn’t work out so well for Mitt Romney when he got it wrong.
