Field House to Begin Filling Growlers

Field House's new growlerPhoto: Field House

Major League Bocce’s Winter Indoor Season isn’t the only cool thing coming to the Field House in 2013. In January the sprawling Center City watering hole will also begin offering growlers to go. So you can toss bocce balls all night, and grab a 64-ounce glass jug of one of the 40 beers on tap at the bar before heading home. They tweeted this photo of one of their newly branded growlers, but have yet to come through with details on how much they cost, and more importantly, how much it will cost to get them filled.

Pod Drops New Menus; Introduces Late Night Happy Hour

Pod

Pod, the Starr fleet’s flashiest and most futuristic vessel, just updated its menu, adding a bunch of new plates to the already voluminous offerings. Additions include a 72-hour beef short rib, grilled on the robata and served with a rich Japanese curry, hot peppers, and herbs; sizzling pork tenderloin, with a Korean galbi-inspired sauce, sweet onions and sautéed greens; and a tea-smoked duck breast served with a braised duck leg and Japanese kabocha squash spring roll. With its arrival at the University City sushi spot also comes some all new happy hour action. In addition to the food and drink deals — $4 beers, $6 cocktails and wines by the galls, and $5 bites — offered nightly from 4 to 6 p.m., Pod’s is introducing a new late night happy hour. It offers the same dealage, but runs 9 p.m. until closing Sunday through Thursday evenings. Keep reading to check out the new menu, and happy hour offerings.

Watch a Guy Make the Downton Abbey House in Gingerbread Form

A guy with a lot of time on his hands has erected a gingerbread replica of the Yorkshire country estate in Downton Abbey. The time-lapse video shows how he meticulously cuts and bakes the dough, frosts it, hooks up lighting, and, oh God, it's exhausting just typing this (does he have a day job?). The finished product is impressive — a period piece, really. Now, where's the edible Lady Mary?

Alla Spina

In 2013 the Vetri crew is taking those monthly Industry Night parties that they’ve been hosting at Amis up to their gastro-funhouse on North Broad Street, Alla Spina. Pig's head bollito misto in beer broth with chestnut noodles, pork belly piedina with long hots and provolone, and eggnog milkshakes are also on order for the evening.

Just in Time for Christmas: A Bacon Yule Log Video

Applegate Farms made a video of bacon crackling over a picturesque fireplace — an emotionally manipulative, if effective, marketing move. No matter how you feel about bacon, firing up the 31-minute video on Christmas morning is a nice way to ensure everyone unwrapping presents also gets a case of the meat sweats.

Festive food porn, right this way. »

Questlove Misses Hoagies and Tastykakes

?uestlove

Though he spent more time in New York than in his hometown in 2012, Philadelphia’s favorite son, Amhir ?uestlove Thompson still pines for the 215. The Roots drummer and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon band leader told Philly.com that since going fulltime in the Big Apple back in March, he misses long, late-night drives on Broad Street, his colossal record collection, and his weekly DJ gigs at Fluid. But like any other person born and raised in Philly, what Brother Question misses most are the hoagies and Tastykakes. He goes so far as asking rhetorically, “do you know how hard it is finding Tastykake krimpets up here?” Don’t worry Quest, with Twinkies out of the picture, it’s going to get a lot easier, real soon. “Pizza is alright”

The food is alright... there honestly is no "atmosphere" since it consists of just an oven, two small tables and a television.

    “Everything a restaurant should be!”

Others talk the talk, Derek has always walked the walk.
