The geek factor will be set on high tomorrow at Fergie’s Pub when Daily News columnist Don Russell (aka Joe Sixpack) blows in for a vertical tasting of 15 or so vintages of Anchor Brewing Company’s Our Special Ale. That’s the yuletide seasonal the San Francisco brewer’s been rolling out every holiday season since 1975. Each year the suds makers switch up the ingredients, so each release is different from years before. Russell penned a long, bittersweet tale of how he inherited his stockpile of the stuff from dearly departed Phillies broadcaster Andy Musser. His accomplice in the tasting, Keith Kelleher, an upstanding elbow-bender from way back, has amassed his own deep collection of the ales that he’s bringing along. It spans more than 10 years.
A $10 donation at the door will get you a full glass of Anchor’s 2012 Our Special Ale, plus a short pour of each vintage on hand while they last. Proceeds are being donated to Philabundance. The beer begin flowing at 6 p.m.
While on the subject of holiday season beers, there’s a growing number of taps around town where Troegs Mad Elf is showing up. Tonight it’s going on at Fond to help christen the newly relocated, and liquor licensed restaurant’s bar. On Thursday, December 13, the maddening cherry- and honey-laden Belgian strong ale goes on at Dark Horse Cavanaugh’s Headhouse at 7 p.m. The very next night, Friday, December 14, it and a bunch of other Troegs brews will go on at Old City’s Revolution House. Celebrating “Mad Elf Mad Dreams,” the barkeeps there will pour half Troegs Dremweaver and half Mad Elf. There’s also an ugly Christmas Sweater contest.
