This week’s big new bar opening in the Mission, Trick Dog (3010 20th Street at Florida), is finally ready for its close-up. We’ve added some photos to our slideshow, to get a better look at the finished space, and today we bring you the bar snack menu, which will be complete by Friday. Suffice it to say, they’re doing a new twist on the burger dog, called the Trick Dog, and it’s an homage to a long-gone S.F. snack shack out by the ocean.

Co-owner Josh Harris, who grew up in the Sunset, explains that he wanted the burger on the menu to be shaped in a long rectangle and served in a hot dog bun just like the old owner of the tiny snack shack at the Olympic Club golf course used to serve. “People told him for years that his hot dogs were so great that he should start making burgers too,” Harris says. “He refused and refused, and finally one day he said ‘OK. I’ll make a burger, but I’m not going to buy two kinds of buns.’” And thus, the inspiration for the Trick Dog. (The name for the bar actually came from an antique cast iron piggy bank, on display in the bar.)

See the food menu below, minus the two larger items that will be added Friday, when their griddle is up and running: the Trick Dog, and a Korean rice plate. “It’s the kind of thing where a bartender or server from the neighborhood can come in here after his shift, say at 1 a.m., and order just that and a beer and get out of here for twenty bucks or less, including tip,” Harris says.

You can check out most of the drink menu here, on which all the cocktails are named for Pantone colors, and the menu is a Pantone color wheel.

Trick Dog - 3010 20th Street at Florida - Open daily from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Last fire (for food) at 1:30 a.m.
