Preeti Mistry’s much anticipated, brick-and-mortar return with Juhu Beach Club is weeks away from its debut in Oakland, and she just shared the full menu with us. As she explains, the name for her pop-up-turned-restaurant comes from her favorite city beach in Mumbai “known for street food, flying kites, and the residences of Bollywood stars.” It’s opening at first for lunch only on March 1, in the former SR24 space at Telegraph and 51st, and will later expand to dinner as soon as things are running smoothly.

Mistry, who was born in London and raised in the U.S., appeared on Top Chef season 6, and has been an executive chef at the deYoung Museum and at Google. She launched Juhu Beach Club as a lunchtime pop-up in early 2011, out of a liquor store across from her former home in SoMa, and got a fair amount of attention for her whimsical takes on Indian street food.

The menu is heavy on chaat items like Vindaloo chicken wings with Point Reyes blue cheese raita; housemade Gujarati-Style samosas; and street food like vada pav, a potato puff with pickled red onions and ghost pepper hot sauce. Snacks are priced from $4 to $8, with the most expensive items on the menu, curries, going for $13 to $18.

Mistry will be grinding and blending all her own spice mixtures herself, as well as making chutneys and pickles. There will be some beers imported from India, with six to eight total on tap. And, since there are a lot of kids in Oakland, she’s doing a kid’s menu with items “to keep the young, non-spice adept palettes very happy.”
