Tacolicious Expanding to North Beach; Palo Alto Location Almost Open; MF Chicken Nixed

Fast on the heels of their just-about-open second location in Palo Alto, the Tacolicious team of Joe Hargrave and chef Telmo Faria have snapped up the shuttered Caffe Maria space (1548 Stockton at Columbus) in North Beach. As Tablehopper reports, the space was too good to pass up, and they’ll be starting construction next month, hopefully finishing by early summer. And they’ll be giving the only other taco games in the ‘hood, Don Pisto’s and Nico’s, a potential run for their money. This will make four total outposts of the new mini-empire, including the original Marina location, and the Valencia Street one opened in 2012.

The Palo Alto location (632 Emerson Street at Hamilton), meanwhile, near the Stanford campus in the former Mantra space, boasts a new mural by artist Paul Madonna, who did the Dolores Park mural at the Valencia location. For his subject Madonna actually used an overhead view of the tequila-making town of Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco, in a valley just a few hours outside Guadalajara. Expect an official opening date to be announced within days.

But Ms. Hopper also breaks the news that MF Chicken, a rotisserie chicken joint they were planning in Noe Valley at 1305 Castro Street, is now off the table. No word yet on why it fell through, but they probablay have enough balls in the air for now.
