In-N-Out Burger’s reluctance to open new locations beyond its western stronghold sure comes as an all-beef-bummer for us East Coasters. But don’t go sticking your head in the oven just yet. As the chain-burger clique continues crowding our fair city and its surrounding communities, word comes that another West Coast export, Umami Burger, will soon be flipping patties here. Nations Restaurant News reports that parent company Umami Restaurant Group has received a $20 million cash infusion from New York-based Fortress Investment Group that will help fund the chain’s expansion into the Philadelphia market. Umami has 13 new units currently in the works, including two East Coast locations in New York and Miami. There’s no word on when we can expect one here, but it can’t be that far off. Until then there’s plenty of patties awaiting us at the Smash-Five-Guys-Red-Robin-Burger-Shack-Palaces. [NRN; Earlier]
