The Farm and the Fisherman Expanding With a Tavern and Market in Cherry Hill

Food & Wine “People’s Best New Chef 2013” nominee Josh Lawler and his wife Colleen are simultaneously expecting their third child, and their second restaurant. The couple opened their critically acclaimed BYOB The Farm and the Fisherman back in March of 2011, amid the region’s explosion of farm-to-table and other pasture and propagation inspired restaurants. Now they’re planning to open an extension of that Pine Street venture in Cherry Hill with The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market. It’s going into the space that’s currently occupied by Andreotti’s Viennese Cafe on Route 70.

Like its predecessor, it will specialize in serving dishes that showcase “responsibly-sourced produce, meat and fish that this region offers,” according to a rep for the couple. And with the expanding brood in mind, the Lawlers expect to put more emphasis on being family-friendly.

In addition to serving an honest, farm-fresh spread, the Market part of the concept will bring local, seasonal offerings from local producers, like just-picked, New Jersey-grown produce, humanely raised meats butchered by hand on site, sustainably caught fish, fair trade coffees, and aged farmstead cheeses. And the Tavern component will ensure there’s a choice selection of craft beers, wine from small producers, and artisan spirits. The opening date is a little ambiguous right now. “Fall” is the target, and more details will come soon.
