Fitler Dining Room Serves Some ‘Real Stunners’; Vegging Vouches For Vegan Tree’s Cheesesteak

• “Amber baubles” of smoked trout roe topping the Beau Soleil oysters at “casual-yet-polished” Fitler Dining Room proved “quite the mouthful” for Adam Erace. Walnut-oiled tartare of Lancaster beef with “perky” chanterelle conserva; seared fluke topped with confit of Meyer lemon; and pork served three ways — cherry-smoked and roasted tenderloin, crisped braised belly, and coarse sausage spiced with quatre epices and poached in duck fat — were “some real stunners.” [Citypaper]

• Phawker’s Vegging checks out South Street’s Vegan Tree and reports back “there is absolutely no rhyme or reason... at all” to the “wildly mismatched” dining room, but the bubble tea is “unparalleled”; the eggplant and tofu burger, and vegan cheesesteak are “menu frontrunners”; and the “unique, secret sauce” used on many of the dishes is “definitely one of those things you wish you could bottle and take home with you.” [Phawker]

• “As the season of more revealing clothing arrives, so, too, does a brand new crop of pairing dinners,” writes Brian Freedman. In lieu of a review this week, he delivers the lowdown on a handful of drinking and eating spectacles on the horizon. [PW]
