• Artist and hot dog evangelist Hawk Krall, will debut a new series of original works inspired by the food culture of East Passyunk Avenue at HOME, a Furnishings Boutique on Saturday. The drawings and paintings going up celebrate neighborhood destinations as diverse as Le Virtu, Stogie Joe’s, and Stateside. Photographer Felicia Perretti will also have new EPA-inspired images on display. • Suddenly the festival season is upon us. Brauhuas Schmitz’s inaugural Maifest, which like its Oktoberfest will take over South Street from 8th Street all the way down to Front, takes place on Saturday, May 4. VIP tickets are on sale now. That Sunday (May 5) sees the return of both Sly Fox’s annual Bock Fest and Goat Races, which brings lots of bock beers, authentic German food, Oompah music and goat racing to the brewer’s Phoenixville location, and the third annual Philly Burger Brawl, Rouge owner Rob Wasserman and wife Maggie’s benefit for funding technology labs at Philly public schools. • Here’s something we don’t get to say often: Morimoto’s in town. Much to the delight of fans and guests, the OG Iron Chef’s been holding it down at his namesake restaurant for several nights this week, and Zagat Philly’s got the pictures to prove it. • And with festival season comes pickling season. Just in time, South Philly Food Co-Op is hosting a workshop on Sunday, April 14 that will go over the basics of pickling and food fermentation with expert Amanda Feifer of Phickle.com. The class will include instruction on making sourdough bread, pickles and yogurt. It’s being held at East Passyunk Crossing Civic Association and Town Watch Center, at 1729 South 11th Street. • Manayunk’s StrEAT Food Festival gets underway this Saturday on Main Street, and with it comes as many as 30 food trucks, plus restaurant tours, multiple food vendor sites, live music and more. It goes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. [Manayunk.com]
