Stateside Missing From Food & Wine’s East Passyunk Ave. List; Hype Builds For Serpico

So, it looks like the secret’s out about — no longer emerging, it’s matter of factly established — restaurant row East Passyunk Avenue. In the May issue, Food & Wine spotlights the booming South Philly strip on its “10 Best Foodie Streets in America” list. Will BYOB gets a special shout-out from author and EPA yokel Joy Manning, and other hot spots like Fond, Marra’s and even newly opened booze boutique, Pollyodd are also mentioned. Strange though, what’s missing is Stateside, the all-American small-plater that generated tremendous buzz for the neighborhood while opening chef George Sabatino was holding down the kitchen.

His perfectly capable replacement, Elijah Milligan, continues rolling out compelling plates, as evidenced by his latest menu update. So maybe the omission was simply the result of the restaurant being overlooked.

Meanwhile, in a completely separate piece (no link available yet), the magazine lists “100 Restaurants Worth a Pilgrimage.” Coming in at number 21 is none other than Serpico, the still not-opened joint venture on South Street from “King of Restaurants” Stephen Starr, and former Momofuku main man, Peter Serpico. If the hype for the soon to open venture hasn’t already blown up huge, it is now.
