Must be Tuesday!

We already know that tacos are as much a part of our dining landscape as pretzels, pho and roast pork sandwiches. So much so that the phenomenon of Taco Tuesdays, restaurants and bars celebrating the mighty tortilla’s triumphs with weekly deals and specials, has been quietly establishing itself as a regular weekly dining feature throughout the city since the late nineties. Right now we have five Taco Tuesdays that we believe are worth considering. Keep reading to check them out.

Tattooed Mom
This South Street institution has one of the longest running Taco Tuesday dealies. It was first introduced back in the late-nineties. Back then, just as now the beef and veggie tacos are one of the cheapest Tuesday dates. They’re just one dollar! For April, there’s also Taco of the Month, the “Aloha al Pastor,” pork shoulder braised with pineapple and chipotle, topped with black bean and corn salsa.

Avenida
Beginning tonight, Mt. Airy’s Avenida will offer a weekly, $20 taco deal on Tuesdays. The price covers three tacos — Brazilian Tigerfish, grilled lamb sausage with pico de gallo, black bean and soy chorizo, or grilled chicken with creamy roasted pepper-garlic sauce and cilantro — plus three side dishes. Those include baked black beans with cloves and bacon lardons; “trio frito,” yukon gold, sweet potato and yucca fries; creamy cabbage and watercress with dulce de leche chipotle vinaigrette; and fried zucchini “noodles” with jalapenos, onions and tomatillo sauce. And to drink, Avenida offers Margaritas in shades of mango, passion fruit, prickly pear, watermelon, peach, and blood orange for $5.

Interstate Draft House
Every Tuesday this Fishtown watering hole serves $1 tacos, and offers discounts on beers.

Lolita
Marcie Turney and Valarie Safran have made their weekly taco deal a permanent weekly fixture at their Mexican flavored Lolita. Twenty bucks gets you tacos plus jicama, green mango and watermelon radish salad with pepitas, olive oil, and lime; Mexican beans with smoked bacon, morita chile and caramelized onions; “street style” roasted fingerling potatoes, cotija, chile, and lime aioli; arroz amarillo with rajas; fresh corn tortillas; avocado-tomatillo salsa; and roasted tomato-chipotle salsa. Taco options include grilled filet tips with smoked tomato-guajillo salsa, rajas, parsley-mint chimichurri, crispy shallots, and aged cotija; puerco borracha with pasilla-tequila grilled pork loin, grilled chorizo, apple-fennel salad, and pickled morita salsa; grilled asparagus and wild mushrooms with smoked chihuahua cheese, roasted hominy, and salsa molcajete; and crispy plantain & blue corn crusted mahi with chipotle crema, jicama-radish slaw, pickled onions, and avocado.

Tres Jalapenos
Bella Vista’s Tres Jalapenos offers a more traditional take on tacos, but serves them in unlimited portions for just $13.95 on Tuesdays.
