Sad news filtered in over the weekend that Tom Watson, the 36-year-old who DJ-ed at dozens of bars and clubs in the city under the name DJ Fenicx was fatally gunned down early Saturday morning while returning home from a gig at University City’s Copabanana. Early reports said that his assailants were trying to rob him of his DJ gear when gunshots rang out in the pre-dawn hours, but new information surfacing today indicates that Watson had “large amounts” of cocaine and weed in his apartment above South Street’s Haagan Dazs Ice Cream Shop. Investigators now believe the drugs are at the root of the murder. Homicide detectives are on the lookout for the two suspects, and reviewing surveillance video from the neighborhood to identify them. [Action News]
