The Artisanal Mayonnaise Shop Parodied in SNL Will Release a Tie-in Flavor

Kevin Hart’s SNL episode over the weekend included a gem in which the actor shares a story set in borderline-twee, gentrified Brooklyn — marathon brunching and upscale gelato make appearances. He tells Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah’s characters about that “new artisanal mayonnaise spot” he read about on a food blog, and its $8 jars of the garlic-truffle flavor. Astute viewers no doubt recognized chef Sam Mason’s very real Empire Mayonnaise from the three-minute sketch, and now the shop, which also makes some not-so-dainty ghost-pepper mayonnaise, says it will actually put the flavor into production. “It would be amazing,” says Elizabeth Valleau, Empire’s co-proprietor, noting that she appreciates the joke. “We’ve mixed our roasted garlic with our truffle before, and it’s been good.”
